Penalty points and fines
If an item is overdue, penalty points accrue and are added to your record when the item is returned.
Points accrue at the following rates:
|Type of loan||Penalty points|
|4 or 6 week loan||1 point per day overdue|
|Semester loan||1 point per day overdue|
|Recalled loans||10 points per day overdue from the due date|
|1, 3 and 7 day loans||10 points per day overdue|
|2 hour High Demand loans||10 points per hour overdue|
|3 day High Demand loans||50 points per day overdue|
|BONUS+ loans||10 points per day overdue|
|Document Delivery loans||10 points per day overdue|
Students may accrue up to 200 points in an academic year and staff up to 1000 points in an academic year.
Once you accrue more points than your limit, you will not be able to borrow until you pay a fine of $50.00.
After you pay your fine your points are reset to zero. Subsequent fines will reduce the point level at which your rights are suspended.
If you are suspended more than once reinstatement of your borrowing rights is at the discretion of the University Librarian.
If you don't return your loans within 4 weeks of the due date or you damage a item, we will invoice you for the cost of replacement.
There is a $125 fine for lost BONUS+ items.
Students who do not pay invoiced items will have an encumbrance placed on their university enrolment.
If an encumbrance is placed on your record, you will not be able to:
- borrow, renew or request library items including BONUS+ and ArticleReach services
- access to your assessment and/or examination results.
Your privileges will be restored after all billed items are returned or payment is received and your encumbrance is cleared (Monday to Friday only).
How to pay
Payments by phone using a credit card are also accepted (Monday to Friday, 9am-4pm). Call 08 9360 2563.
