Using copyright protected works in a conference paper or journal article

You can usually rely on Fair Dealing for Criticism & Review to deliver a ‘live’ paper containing copyright protected material.

However, you may need the copyright owner’s permission if the paper is to be published as part of conference proceedings.

If you need images (diagrams, photographs, etc) for a conference paper the copyright issues will be much easier to manage if you use Creative Commons licensed works.
