Quick start guide to using the document delivery service
Registering
Register using this registration form.
If you are a student with a disability, you need to register for library services with the Equity Office first.
Requesting items
Before you start:
- Check the Murdoch University Library catalogue to see if we already hold the item.
Login and search for the item you want to request
- For Books or Chapters of Books: search for the ISBN or the title of the entire book.
- For Journal Articles: search for the ISSN or the title of the entire journal. You will specify the article details later.
- For Other Material (for example an individual conference paper): Search for the title of the entire work (eg. conference proceedings), not the individual part. You will specify the details of the part you want to request later.

Once your search results appear, find the item that matches your request.
- Select Details or the title of the item to check for more information.
- To request, select Get it.

Complete the request from

For books
- Make sure Loan is checked.
- Click on the Request button.
- A confirmation screen will appear.
For copies of articles, chapters, papers
- Make sure Copy is checked.
- Fill in the part details section of the request form if you are requesting:
- Only a chapter of a book, or
- An individual article from a journal, or
- Part of some other type of work
- Click on the Request button.
- Agree to copyright conditions.
- A confirmation screen will appear.
Use the additional Information section of the form to indicate the last possible date you will want the item. Please use the format DD MON YYYY for the not needed after box.
In the special instructions field, you can indicate:
- Limits to the search (for example, try only within Australia).
- Source of your information.
- Special delivery instructions (for example, send to Rockingham).
If you want an item in a hurry, add rush or express to the special instructions field. These options incur additional charges to the library and are explained in the charges information.
If you don't find the item you want in your search
If your search is unsuccessful, you will see the following screen:

Click on the Blank Form link to place a request:
- Select the format, such as Book, Article printed, or Other.
- Enter as much information as you have about the item, including Copy or Loan and Part details.
- Complete the Additional Information and Special instructions fields.
- Click on the Request button.
Placing a request from Findit
When you search Findit, a database or Google Scholar, you may get the option to request and article or book using document delivery. This link will only appear if there is no full text available online.

- Select the request article link.
- Sign in using your document delivery username and password.
- Check that the details on document delivery request form displayed are correct.
- Add any special instructions, and click on request.
Tracking your requests
To see the progress of your request, log in, go to the My Account menu and select the My Requests option.
The status messages are explained below:
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Pending | The requesting process has not yet started. |
| Shipped | The process has started but your request is still pending. |
| Received | The item has been received at your requesting library. |
| Renewal Requested | Your library has asked for renewal. |
| Overdue | Your request is overdue at the supplying library. |
| Returned | The item has been sent back to the supplying library. |
| Recalled | The supplying library has asked for the item to be sent back. |
| Lost | The requesting or supplying library has reported the item is lost or it never arrived. |
| Damaged | The requesting or responding library has reported the item is damaged. |
| Cancelled | Your request is now cancelled. |
Cancelling a request
- Go to My Requests.
- Find the item that you want to cancel.
- Use the cancel icon on the right of the screen.
- The confirmation screen will appear. Click on Cancel Request button to confirm.
Renewing a loan item
Use My Requests to request a renewal of your loan. Please note this does not mean the item has been renewed. The request to renew will be sent to the supplying library for approval.
- Go to My Requests.
- Locate the item you want to renew.
- Use the Renew icon on the right of the screen.

- Enter a desired due date.
- Select Request to complete the process, and a confirmation screen will appear.
Receiving your requests
How long will it take?
This is a guide to when items usually arrive. They may take longer if they are missing or on loan from the supplying library.

Loan items
Staff and postgraduate students
Collect your items form the Enquiry and Loans Desk at your campus library. Please return the items to the Enquiry and Loans Desk before the due date.
Eligible external students and students with a disability
Items will be posted to your home address. Please return the items in the reply paid packaging before the due date.
Copies of items
You will receive an email when your item is available electronically.
- Click on the link in the email.
- Log in to document delivery service and click on My Requests.
- At the bottom of the requested item, there will be a PDF file. Click the link to open your article.
- Save your document to your computer by clicking on the save icon.
Your document will be available for only ten days from the date you first open it.
