Adding AV material to Lectopia
Screenrights recordings
You can upload a DVD to Lectopia if it is a Screenrights licensed recording or if it has been bought by the Library with an Educational Purposes Licence.
A Screenrights licensed recording is a copy of any broadcast from radio or TV (including cable and satellite channels). The University pays a substantial royalty fee to use these recordings for educational purposes.
You can make a Screenrights recording yourself by copying a program off-air at home, or the Library can purchase them from a number of sources.
A Screenrights recording made at home must have the following information attached to it:
| Title of program:............................................. TV channel or radio station:............................ Date and time of broadcast:............................ Length of recording in minutes:........................ Date this copy was made:............................... |
RequestTV and TVNews are databases of Screenrights licensed recordings made from all Australian free-to-air broadcasters. See the Guide to using TVNews and RequestTV for more information.
If you cannot find the work you need in either of these databases, contact your subject librarian who will extend the search to other suppliers.
When you have a Screenrights licensed recording uploaded to Lectopia you must fill in the copyright management information within Lectopia’s staff tool.
Commercially purchased or hired DVDs
The Screenrights licence does not cover the copying or communication of commercially purchased or hired videos, DVDs or sound recordings, which are protected by a number of copyright restrictions. Commercial DVDs cannot usually be uploaded to Lectopia unless they have been specially licensed for educational purposes.
Contact your subject librarian to order a commercial work with an Educational Purposes Licence.
Library holdings of Screenrights recordings, and commercial DVDs that can be uploaded to Lectopia, have a green label fixed to them.
Request to upload an item to Lectopia
Please complete a Request to upload an AV item to Lectopia form (PDF, 20KB), give it (and the recording where appropriate) to Library staff at the Enquiry and Loans Desk and they will arrange with AVS to have your request completed.
