Adding Audio-Visual material to LCS

Screenrights recordings

You can upload a DVD to the Lecture Capture System (LCS) if it is a Screenrights licensed recording or if it has been bought by the Library with an Educational Purposes Licence.

A Screenrights licensed recording is a copy of any broadcast from radio or TV (including cable and satellite channels). The University pays a royalty fee to use these recordings for educational purposes.

You can make a Screenrights recording yourself by copying a program off-air at home, or the Library can purchase them from a number of sources.

Please attach the following notice to any Screenrights recordings you do yourself.

The declaration: This copy was made for Murdoch University under Part VA Copyright Act 1968.
Title of program:.............................................
TV channel or radio station:............................
Date and time of broadcast:............................
Length of recording in minutes:........................
Date this copy was made:...............................

TVNews is a database of Screenrights licensed recordings made from all Australian free-to-air broadcasters. See the Guide to using TVNews for more information.

EduTV provides access to streaming versions of many programs broadcast by free-to-air networks (since late 2007).

If you cannot find the work you need in this database, please contact your subject librarian who will extend the search to other suppliers.

Commercially purchased or hired DVDs

The Screenrights licence does not cover the copying or communication of commercially purchased or hired videos, DVDs or sound recordings, which are protected by a number of copyright restrictions. Commercial DVDs cannot usually be uploaded to LCS unless they have been specially licensed for educational purposes.

Contact your subject librarian to order a commercial work with an Educational Purposes Licence.

Library holdings of Screenrights recordings, and commercial DVDs that can be uploaded to LCS, have a green label fixed to them.

Request to upload an item to LCS

Please complete a Request to upload an AV item to LCS form (PDF, 20KB), give it (and the recording where appropriate) to Library staff at the Enquiry and Loans Desk and they will arrange with AVS to have your request completed.
